GARDIN FLOWERS
Blackberry
A walk along the edges of our neighborhood reveals the blackberries in their late spring palette of soft greens and white. Up close, the texture expresses subtle variations of green that cannot be seen from the road. When you walk by you see an arrangement of stems and flowers and foliage, each one flowing over another into the light. What some may see as a bramble, as the thickets show themselves from a distance, I see as a live arrangement revealing itself with each walk. To understand color in floral design is to learn to see the colors of each hour and each day.

Lemon Balm
I don't grow lemon balm to cook with it. I let it grow, cut it for indoors, and sometimes just let it be the sensory invitation in the garden.
I cut some this week, while waiting on flowers to arrive for arranging. It has been in my favorite thrifted crystal vase for four days, still as vibrant as ever. It began arranging itself after a day in the water. It has movement all its own, and is stunning. Its bright green leaves remind you of the early days of spring.
